Family: Factors Affecting Childhood
After spending three-four years of birth in the family, the child reaches the social and school environment. The first step of child development develops in the family itself, the values and activities of the family leave a deep impact on the child.
On these thoughts and facts, the child builds a grand palace of his development. The environment of the family affects every aspect of child development. There are many factors in the family that affect childhood. Here we look at these factors in detail:-
Physical Development
In families where the standard of living is high, naturally the children get nutritious food. Balanced diet contains all the essential elements that are considered necessary for the development of a child. Apart from this, in families where importance is given to morning walks and completing work with cleanliness, the health of children is of high level.
Therefore, we can say that the physical development of children depends on the background of the child. If the family background is not right, then the physical development of the child will not happen properly.
Mental Development
Family background also affects the mental development of the child. In families where the thinking of the people is good and proper diet and rest of the children is taken care of, the mental development of the children is of high level. In the opposite situation, the mental development of the children is adversely affected.
Emotional Development
In families where emotional stability is found in parents and other family members and they can also control their emotions as per the need and situation, then the emotional development of the children of such families also takes place in a balanced manner, because the tendency of imitation is found in abundance in children. According to this tendency, the child learns emotional stability and self-control etc.
Language Development
Family also has a complete impact on the language development of the child. The development of the language of children depends on the language spoken in their family and its purity. The families who pronounce words incorrectly and speak a distorted language. In such families, children’s language development does not happen properly.
Creative Development
Family background also has an effect on creative development. Families whose educational level is high and they are associated with some creative work, the creativity of children of such families develops very fast. Let us understand this with an example, suppose in a family of a toy maker, children automatically learn to make different types of idols because they have a very strong tendency to imitate.
School: Factors Affecting Childhood
School also affects childhood. After the family, the child reaches the school environment. In school, he learns new things by considering teachers as his ideal. The child learns healthy traditions from the healthy environment of the school.
On the contrary, if the school environment is not clean, then the development of the child will also not be proper. Therefore, the school plays an important role in child development. There are some factors under this which affect childhood. These factors are as follows:-
Physical development
In school, sports and physical activities are arranged according to the age group of the children so that the physical development of the children takes place in a proper manner. Daily P.T. in the school also provides full support in this work.
Mental development
School plays an important role in the mental development of children. In school, children are taught how words are formed. Children are asked to tell stories due to which story telling skills develop in them unconsciously. Children are asked to make stories based on small lines. These types of activities in school help a lot in the mental development of children.
Language development
For language development in school, activities like organizing debate competitions, organizing Bal Sabha, story writing competition and expressing views etc. are organized.
Social development
The child gets acquainted with social activities by participating in social and cultural programs organized in the school. He learns how to behave with the younger ones and the elders in the society.
Neighborhood: Factors Affecting Childhood
✅The house in which a child is born, the environment around him where he is brought up, i.e. the environment of the neighbourhood has a great impact on him. The following factors of the surrounding environment affect the development of the child:-
✅Today, the neighbourhood has a great impact on the upbringing of children. Parents observe how the people living in their neighbourhood bring up their children. What do they give them for food? What do they put in the lunch box in school? What kind of clothes do they wear? How do they celebrate their birthdays? Which school do they send them to? What materials or equipment do they provide for playing at home? Observation of all these things affects the upbringing of the child by the parents.
✅If the social, economic and educational status of the people living in the neighbourhood is good, then the surrounding environment is constructive. The parents of the neighbourhood collectively make such plans or organise programmes which can benefit their children.
✅As a child grows up, he comes out of the four walls of the house and comes in contact with the children of the neighbourhood. He learns the interests, habits, virtues and demerits of the people in the neighbourhood directly or indirectly.
✅If good companions and friends are found in the vicinity to play with, then good sociality develops in the child.
✅If children of the neighbourhood participate in intellectual activities together, then their intellectual development improves.
✅A child learns some habits from the children of the neighbours or by imitating the neighbours such as – the habit of obeying, the habit of speaking the truth, self-control, the habit of discipline, the habit of self-reliance and the habit of being happy etc.
Community: Factors Affecting Childhood
The community also has a direct impact on the child. Some factors come under this which are as follows:-
Social impact
The community has a direct social impact on the child. The child has seen informally that all the people work for the progress of their community and if some of them do not do so, then the community progress stops. From time to time, fairs, festivals, social conferences and religious functions etc. are held in the community. By participating in these, the child gets practical knowledge of social life and social service.
Only by living in the community does the child understand rights and freedom in a real way. He comes to know that duties are necessary along with rights and discipline is necessary along with freedom. Therefore, we can say that the community develops civic qualities in children and at the same time teaches the feelings of service, sacrifice and cooperation.
Cultural impact
Every community has its own culture. The child sees people elder to him respecting and protecting his culture. Therefore, he himself also starts doing the same. When a child sees the social, cultural and religious festivals of the community, he tries to follow them, as a result of which a special kind of feeling develops in him for the culture and religion of his community.
So when a child comes to school for the first time, some characteristics of language, religious morality tell him about his culture.
Economic effect
The economic effect of the community is seen in industries and businesses. The child sees people of his community engaged in various businesses, after which he also develops interest in some of them and becomes eager to learn it.
